Mace Windu wrote I believe this picture is of the Black Panther Party. I remember seeing it when looking up pictures of the group.
Wow wrote @ Mace Windu.
Dude, that's fucking Malcolm X. How could you not know that?
Luis wrote This is a picture of Malcom X, taken from the cover of Time Magazine. The picture symbolizes his plan to protect himself and his family from the death threats he had been recieving.
Alexander Stuffington wrote Is it ok for white people to wear this?
phreeck wrote Absolutely not
Presh wrote To Alexander Stuffington... if you believe in what he stood for.. wear what you want. Read on his philosophy (entirely).

...what happened to Malcoms I through IX?!?!?!?!?!?!?
nunya bizness wrote ummm his name is not malcom the 10th! the x stands for something else...look up your history
Really? wrote Like Luis said this symbolizes his willingness to protect what he cares about from anything no matter the cost. If you can get behind that, you can wear this shirt. You shouldn't think of it as a black or white thing.
Bill Eos Pharts wrote Why would anybody put Obama on a shirt with a gun in his hand?!
educated. wrote Malcolm X changed his last name to X from Little after he converted to the nation of Islam. His philosophy by any means necessary means he will fight for his rights by any means necessary. Go listen of read his speech "The bullet or the ballot" it will make more since. I am a white female and think anone who wants to wear this shirt should, but dont be ignorant about it.
Faith wrote I think the I - IX thing was a joke, lmao. I swear, I can't be the only person to get that. Seriously, dude, lol.
Shnood wrote You don\'t have to be black to be oppressed or fight the power. Everyone should be able whatever they want. The second people start dictating what other can or should wear, they become no better than the people who were oppressing them.
Ali wrote Malcolm X isn\'t a hero specific to black people...he\'s a hero for all of us. While I may prefer King\'s style of philosophy...there is a lot of value, courage, and love at the heart of X\'s philosophy as well. It has different values, but hey, I\'ll give it up to any man who\'ll fight to protect his and his own...though I think ultimately King\'s approach is both morally superior and more effective.
Ben wrote Malcom X was a freakin' terrorist. If you want to wear a shirt with a symbolic black man on it, wear one with Martin Luther King.
Rook wrote According to international human rights, anyone can wear this shirt anywhere. Anyone who would discriminate a white person for wearing it, would be comitting a crime against nature. So don't try and tell people what they can and can't wear.
zombiekid wrote I like turtles
Say it to my face!!!! wrote I'd like to thank everyone for ignoring the obvious ignorance displayed here today
educated black man wrote @ BEN
"Malcolm" X is the correct spelling of his name & he is far from a terrorist. Mr. X just simply had a different philosophy than Dr. King. Mr. X represented many African Americans that were fed up with being treated with inequality. If your people are being murdered, harassed, raped, beaten, tortured and psychologically affected for years to come, you would get angry & want justice also. Malcolm didn’t preach hate & violence; he preached ""protection"". Truly read his work before you use such a strong word as terrorist. He became very diverse & opens to all cultures once he returned from Mecca. Becoming friends with Dr. King made him more dangerous than ever and that’s primarily why he was assassinated.
TheAnswer915 wrote @ All
Al Hajj Malik Shabazz is his name after his hajjj to Mecca calling him Malcolm X is like Calling Muhammad Ali Cassius Clay
@ Ben
He never committed one act of terrorism and he was actually a victim of terrorism (KKK) who harassed his family and later killed his father.
G-man wrote I'm a 53-year-old white guy and TheAnswer915 is right: If you read Malcolm, if you read about Malcolm, you know that he was not a terrorist. He stood for education, self-reliance, integrity, sobriety, fidelity. Which of those values do you disagree with?
His famous phrase was that everyone, including African-Americans, had the right to protect themselves, to defend themselves... by any means necessary.
A right guaranteed to ALL Americans.
To disrespect Malcolm is to respect one of the greatest Americans of the 20th century.
And yeah, I personally find the shirt offensive, because especially at that point in his evolution as a leader, that photo is so UNcharacteristic of his beliefs. He only picked up a gun after his house was firebombed and his family was threatened, when he was marked for assassination.
Righterman wrote I agree with G-man.
I did a lot of reading on Malcolm X and I agree with some of his philosophies. I am a white 39-year-old so if I was a black man growing up in the 1960s where fire hoses and police dogs were sent on me. I would be more than pissed at the white man. But, it was later in his life, when he left the Nation of Islam, he began to embrace all peoples. This picture is not the all-inclusive Malcolm. He received numerous death threats and after his house was firebombed he simply needed to protect himself. And this is the photo many associate as being Malcolm X. He is not a militant man nor a terrorist. His awakening words helped those find some hope in a time of racist chaos, which sadly goes on today.

bmarin wrote All I gotta say is Read the Autobiography of Malcolm X, as Told by Alex Haley. You will formulate you own opinion about the man. The book is considered one of the most important literary works of the 20th century. I dig the shirt it is cool.
emran wrote ben u stu_id and how could somebody hate Malcolm if they know what he stood for anybody can wear the shirt dont let anybody tell u different he respected and loved all read alex hailey 915 good one what was the difference between Jesus and Malcolm both of them stood for the truth and gave their life for the people difference is people did not have gun back in the days

M/C Exact, illegal alias wrote I agree with G-man, and Righterman
Al Hajj Malik Shabazz was a great man, who like all great men of that time, fell victim to violence because the ppl he was try to enlighten would not change for the betterment of each other. We can all take a lession from Al Hajj, M.L.K, J.F.K, R.F.K, Bob Marley, John Lennon, and many other freedom (fighters) teachers, that it 's not the taking up of arms or the speaking of words that make freedom and equality precious ideal. It's putting your life on the line for that make that ideal so strong, so worth it. My hats off eternally to those who would put there lives on the table for all of us in the hope that we could live together. Thanks Al, and the shirt is pretty cool. I didn't think so at first, but after reading all this I can see that we made some headway. I'm a 25yr old young black man, and proud of all of us, black or white wear it, but know why!!!!
Matt wrote Malcolm X believed in education and strong family and personal values. He believed in violence only when necessary, as in to protect yourself from police brutality or other ignorant people who abuse you. If you wanna wear this shirt, definitely do it, but don't be ignorant about it. Black leaders have been killed in cold blood under orders by the United States government... listen to KRS-ONE... "from Jesus Christ until now, everytime a Black man speaks up... KaPOW!"... be wary of the media and don't believe everything you read, hear or see... there's a war going on for your mind, don't lose your freedom to believe what you want. do not fall to false prophets preaching hope and change... they only seek to control you.
The Real Bernard MC wrote Malcolm X actually recanted all of his anti-white statements before his assasination. He died a leader, hero, and defender of blacks, Muslims, and anyone oppressed by a xenophobic government or majority. He wasn't a terrorist because he didn't promote terror attacks, but rather absolute defense of his community. Terrorism is so overused these days. Keep things in context people!
Kurosh Contractor wrote It is absolutely OK for a white, blue, green, black, or brown person to wear this shirt! Im Persian and I wear black panther and revolutionary shirts all the time! Time to add this one to my collection!
keysersoze wrote I can't thank ALL of you enough for this discussion... 'Malcolm's' story shows a man who went from hustler, to pimp, to convict, to rebel, to leader! What's amazing is that the same one's that would have you believe he's a terrorist actually followed 'Malcolm' and allowed his death to take place because of what he represented. He's no different than any of us and shows that we all can become something better.... to those who still don't get it, like Morpheus said,"free your mind"!

I am a 39 year old Asiatic Blackman decendent from the lost tribe of Shabazz a member of the NOI
Many have their misguioded opinions bout Malcolm little a.k.a. Malcom X and properly known as Al Hajj Malik Shabazz.
This Man is a Hero for people of all races, religions, or whatever. He simply stood against oppression and wanted to see his people treated equally "initially" and then wanted to see all people who were treated unfairly given the same rights due to any human being! While his assisination was a plot that included more than one organization. i dont tend to speculate my beliefs without the facts. However know this! If you belive that no one shoul be oppressed for any reason then wear the shirt! History is best understood when you do YOUR OWN RESEARCH! Nver let someone else inluence your opinion of another. Come to that conclusion based on the facts you find through RESEARCH! We nee more men like Al Hajj Malik Shabazz

Lex wrote Malcom X was a man who continually sought self improvement...from the time when he was class president thru his criminal life...and so on...anything he did he did it well. (Albeit, sometimes illegally)...he was a man who kept an open mind to the thing that was in front of him...he never stopped evolving as a person. That is why he is my Hero

charles wrote @ EVERYONE WHO ARE QOUTING RANDOM WORDS FROM THIS MAN'S LIFE
I think yall should first read his auto biography. because you are doing his memory a disservice by only know that he said "by any means necesscary" and that will also allow any white people wondering if you can wear this shirt to decide for yourself.

Ken patterson (sulken2000@yahoo.com) wrote lol @ woww, yes, anytime a black/white topic is brought up, especially now, it becomes a heated debate/argument, often leading to angry tones.

QDiddy wrote Jeez PEOPLE! Malcolm Little was given a "X" after his name by Elijah Muhammad when he converted from christianity to The Nation. The "X" took the place of what muslims back then referred to as the slavemasters last name. A name not self-chosen. Malcolm was obviously NOT a terrorist. Who did he terrorize? Kill? Hurt? If you or your family was receiving death threats CONSTANTLY, had your house firebombed while kids were inside, etc...what would you do? Remember this is the 60's...
BloodNBones wrote This NTIRE panel is bonkerz - save tha few dat give tha history of Brother Malcolm. He wuz against oppression - oppression is not ethnic, it's national!!!
poindexterdj wrote Malcolm was a not a separatist, but a Black Nationalist, which meant that he believed that only blacks should define and direct their freedom movements. He was also not non-racial as someone suggested above. More than hating whites, which is how he is usually characterized, he hated how being white was essentialized as American or superior, which meant that everyone who wasn't white was inferior or a second-class citizen. Very few whites could comprehend how racists this was, and by extension, how racist they could be, and therefore, Malcolm saw them as irrelevant to the black liberation struggle. Read his speeches in Malcolm X speaks and I think you will come to a similar conclusion.
LIAH wrote WATCH THE MOVIE, WITH DENZEL WASHINGTON,OR READ A BOOK!
judge the present, not past wrote Malik Shabaz did have various views on white people at first. but before he died it is well known that he was NOT racist in any way. this was due to the Islamic pilgramige he made and saw believers of all colors. thats what drove him to the orthodox islam. if your an illiterate and dont want to read about him watch the movie as the dude above says.

Stig wrote How could it not be okay for white people to wear this? After Malcolm moved away from N.O.I., he said how deeply he regretted not letting white people help and how wrong it was.
So yes, based on what he himself said closing in on his last days, it would be perfectly okay.
